Get the app, bring your trip.

OUTbound Travel is on the App Store for iPhone, and available as a pre-release build for Android. Both are free for OUTbound travelers.

You'll need an OUTbound account and a reservation

The app is a companion to a trip you have booked, so two things unlock it:

  • An app account. How you get into the app: a one-time code sent to your email, or Sign in with Apple. There is no password to create, and nothing about you is shared with the other people on your trip until you choose to share it.
  • An OUTbound account with a reservation — past, current, or future. Link it once from inside the app, using the login you already use for your booking, and your trip appears a moment later.

Any completed trip counts, so last year's sailing still opens with its itinerary, photos, and the people you travelled with. Anyone can install the app and browse upcoming trips — the itinerary, crew, chat, and photos are what require the linked reservation. Step-by-step help is in the User Guide.

Android

Pre-release

Not on Google Play yet. This is a signed pre-release build you install directly, and opting in means accepting the rough edges below.

What opting in means

You are installing an app from outside the Play Store, so Android will ask you to confirm — that prompt is expected here. The build is signed by OUTbound and served over HTTPS from this site.

There is no automatic updating. New versions are posted on this page, and you install them over the top of the old one.

Installing the Android build

Four steps, on the phone itself. It takes a few minutes, most of it download time.

  1. Open this page on the phone

    Not on a computer. The file is large and has to end up on the device that will run it, so browse to outbound.livepublisher.dev/downloads in Chrome on the phone itself.

  2. Tap Download APK

    About 186 MB, so use Wi-Fi. Chrome will warn you that this kind of file can be harmful — that warning appears for every APK downloaded outside the Play Store. Choose Download anyway.

    The app is large because it carries a compiled Swift core, the same code the iPhone app runs, so both platforms compute your trip identically.

  3. Open the file and allow the install

    Tap the finished download. The first time, Android will say Chrome isn't allowed to install unknown apps and offer a Settings button. Turn on Allow from this source, then come back and tap Install.

    Play Protect may also ask to scan the app first. Letting it scan is fine.

  4. Sign in and link your reservation

    Open OUTbound, sign in with your email code, then link your OUTbound account so the app can bring your trip in. It appears a moment later. The User Guide walks through both screens.

What to expect from a pre-release

What is, and isn't, different from the shipping iPhone app.

  • Push notifications are off in this build. Announcements from your cruise directors still appear inside the app; they just won't light up your lock screen yet.
  • Flight and hotel booking is hand-entry only. You can type in travel you have already booked, but the Android build doesn't search for flights or hotels the way the iPhone app does.
  • No widgets or watch app. Live Activities, home-screen widgets, and the Apple Watch app are iPhone-only for now.
  • Your account and privacy work the same. Sign-in is the same one-time code, location sharing stays off until you turn it on, and your session is stored in Android's hardware-backed keystore.
  • Your trip still works at sea. The itinerary you have already loaded stays readable with no signal, which is the whole point of the app — that path is tested on Android too.
