OUTbound Travel User Guide
Your trip, your crew, onboard.
For iPhone
What is OUTbound Travel?
OUTbound Travel is the companion app for guests sailing on OUTbound trips. Link your reservation and your whole journey comes to life — a day-by-day itinerary, your ship and cabin, the people you're traveling with, and a place to share every moment.
OUTbound Travel puts your voyage in your pocket. Once you link the reservation you booked through OUTbound, the app pulls in your trip and builds a single, clear timeline of everything ahead — every port, excursion, meal, and event, right alongside your own flights and hotels.
- Follow your itinerary day by day, and explore your ship's deck plans, photo galleries, and live position at sea.
- Meet your crew — browse everyone on your sailing, connect with new friends, and set up a companion group with the people you're traveling with.
- Chat one-on-one or in your trip's group chat before and during the voyage.
- Share photos and relive the journey together — you choose who sees each one.
- Collect a trip pin for every OUTbound voyage you complete.
You don't need a reservation to look around
Anyone can download OUTbound Travel and browse upcoming trips. If you haven't booked yet, the home screen's Make a Reservation section links you out to reserve your spot. The full experience — your itinerary, crew, chat, and photos — unlocks once you link your reservation.
Signing in is quick and private
You sign in with a one-time email code or with Sign in with Apple — there is no password to remember. Location sharing is completely optional and off until you turn it on. See Your privacy on OUTbound.
Get Started
Your account and profile
Your account is how you sign in. Your profile is what fellow travelers see. Signing in is passwordless, and much of your profile fills in automatically once you link your reservation.
The first time you sign in, OUTbound creates your account and a profile for you automatically. There is nothing to remember — no password.
Your account (how you sign in)
You sign in with Sign in with Apple or with a one-time email code. Both create the same kind of account, so use whichever is easiest. See Sign in to OUTbound.
Your profile (what others see)
Your profile holds your display name, an optional photo and bio, and your travel details. Fellow passengers on your sailing can see your display name and photo when you connect. You reach your profile from the menu button in the top-right corner — tap it and choose My Profile. See Set up your profile.
A lot of it fills itself in
When you link your reservation, OUTbound imports the details you already gave OUTbound when you booked — your name, contact information, and travel documents. You don't need to type those again. See How linking your reservation works.
Sign in to OUTbound
Sign in with Apple or with a one-time code sent to your email. There is no password to create or remember.
Before you start
You need an iPhone with OUTbound Travel installed and an internet connection. To sign in with a code, you also need access to your email inbox. Use the same email or Apple ID each time so your trip, chats, and photos stay together.
Steps
- On the home screen, tap the menu button in the top-right corner, then tap Sign In.The Welcome to OUTbound screen appears with the message "Sign in to access your trips and travel plans."
- Choose how you want to sign in.
- Sign in with Apple — tap the Apple button and confirm with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode. On first use, choose whether to share or hide your email address.
- Email code — under EMAIL, type your Email address and tap Send Code.
- If you chose the email option, open your inbox and find the 6-digit OUTbound sign-in code. The email subject is "Your OUTbound sign-in code," and the code is valid for 15 minutes. Don't share it with anyone.
- Type the 6-digit code into the app and tap Sign In.If the code expired or didn't arrive, tap Resend code to get a new one.
Next: link your OUTbound Account so your trip appears — or set up your profile first.
Set up your profile
Add a display name, photo, and short bio so fellow travelers recognize you. Everything here is optional and you can change it anytime.
Your profile is how you appear to other passengers when you connect with them. Open it from the menu button in the top-right corner → My Profile, then tap through to Profile Settings.
Steps
- Tap Name and enter the name you want others to see. This is how your name appears to others. If you've already linked your reservation, your name may already be filled in.
- Tap Bio to add a short "about you" blurb, and optionally set your Age visibility.
- Tap Photos & Videos to add a profile photo (and other media).
- Optionally tap Gender to set your gender.
Next: review what's shared in Your privacy on OUTbound, and adjust settings in Manage your privacy and location settings.
Link Your Reservation
How linking your reservation works
OUTbound shows your trip by securely connecting to your OUTbound Account — where your reservation lives. You link it once, and the app keeps your trip up to date from then on.
When you booked your OUTbound voyage, your reservation was placed in your OUTbound Account — the same account you use to manage your booking online. Linking tells OUTbound Travel, "this account is mine" — and from that point the app can bring your trip in.
What linking brings into the app
Once linked and synced, OUTbound imports:
- Your trip — it appears on the home screen with its photo, dates, and ship or venue.
- Hotel add-ons you booked, shown under Accommodations on the trip.
- Your traveler details — the name, contact information, and travel documents you gave OUTbound when booking (so you don't retype them).
If you have more than one OUTbound reservation, all of them come in as separate trips.
Your trip doesn't appear the instant you link
Linking saves the connection; fetching your reservation happens a moment later in the background. If your trip isn't visible right away, pull down to refresh the home screen, or close and reopen the app. After that, OUTbound keeps your trip current automatically. See Refresh and sync your trips.
Link your OUTbound Account
Connect the OUTbound Account where your reservation lives so your trip appears in the app. You only do this once.
Before you start
- Sign in to OUTbound (see Sign in to OUTbound). You must be signed in to link.
- Have your OUTbound Account username and password ready — the same ones you use to log in to your booking online. If you're not sure they work, try logging in to your booking in a browser first.
Steps
- Open the Linked Accounts screen.
- If you have no trips yet, the home screen shows No Trips Available with the message "Link your OUTbound accounts to view and manage your trips." Tap Link Accounts.
- Otherwise, open the menu (top-right) → My Profile → Profile Settings → Linked Accounts.
- Under the OUTbound Account heading, tap Add Account. The Link OUTbound Account screen opens with two fields under OUTbound Account Credentials.
- In Username, type your OUTbound Account username. The footer reminds you: "Enter the same credentials you use to sign in to your OUTbound Account." Usernames are entered exactly as-is — no automatic capitalization.
- In Password, type your OUTbound Account password.
- Tap Link Account.OUTbound checks the credentials right away. This takes a few seconds — a spinner shows while it works. If the credentials are correct, the screen returns to Linked Accounts and your username now appears in the list with a key icon.
Next: Refresh and sync your trips. If linking failed, see OUTbound Account linking troubleshooting.
Refresh and sync your trips
After you link your OUTbound Account, pull down to refresh so your trip appears right away. From then on, OUTbound keeps it up to date on its own.
Linking saves the connection, but your reservation is fetched a moment later. If your trip isn't showing yet, this is how to bring it in immediately.
Steps
- Go to the home screen (OUTbound Travel).
- Swipe down from the top of the list and release. An Updating Reservations… message appears while OUTbound checks for your latest reservation details.
- Wait for the refresh to finish.Your trip appears under the matching section — My Current Trips, My Next Trip, My Upcoming Trips, or My Past Trips.
Manage or update a linked account
Update your OUTbound Account password after you change it, link more than one OUTbound Account, or learn how a link is removed.
All of this happens on the Linked Accounts screen: menu (top-right) → My Profile → Profile Settings → Linked Accounts.
Steps
- To update credentials after changing your OUTbound Account password, tap your username in the list. The Edit Account screen opens with your details filled in.
- Enter your new password and tap Update Account.OUTbound re-checks the credentials and updates the existing link — it doesn't create a duplicate.
- To add another OUTbound Account, tap Add Account again and link it the same way. Each linked account appears as its own row, and OUTbound syncs trips from all of them.
Removing a link
There is no separate "unlink" button. Your OUTbound Account is unlinked automatically if you delete your app account (Profile Settings → Account Deletion). Deleting your OUTbound account removes your OUTbound copy of the credentials and trip data, but none of your OUTbound Account data or your actual reservation is affected — your booking with OUTbound stays exactly as it is.
Your Trip
Your trip at a glance
Tapping a trip opens everything about that voyage in one place — a countdown, your ship, a day-by-day itinerary, your flights and hotels, ports, and photos.
The home screen shows your trips as cards, grouped into My Current Trips, My Next Trip, My Upcoming Trips, and My Past Trips. Tap a card to open the trip.
What's on a trip
- A hero photo with a countdown to departure, and — once you've sailed — your collectible trip pin.
- Overview and Your Ship (or Your Venue for land trips). See Explore your ship.
- Announcements from the OUTbound team.
- Trip Route — a map of your ports and stops; tap to view it full-screen.
- Accommodations and Flights tied to your reservation.
- Your day-by-day itinerary, grouped under headings like "Day 1 — Mon, Jun 15." See Follow your itinerary.
- Places of Interest along the way, and Trip Photos. See Share and view trip photos.
Trip pins
You earn a commemorative trip pin for a voyage once you have a reservation on it and the trip has started. Collected pins live in the menu under OUTbound Badges — a keepsake of every OUTbound journey you've taken.
Add your own plans, too
Beyond the official schedule, you can add your personal flights, hotels, and activities for before, during, and after the trip. See Plan your own flights, hotels, and activities.
Follow your itinerary
See every port, excursion, meal, and event on your schedule, organized day by day.
Your trip must be linked and synced first. See Link your OUTbound Account.
Steps
- From the home screen, tap your trip.
- Scroll to the day-by-day itinerary.Items are grouped under day headings such as "Day 1 — Mon, Jun 15."
- Tap any itinerary item to see its details.Timed items show a start (and end) time and location; all-day items show just the day. Each item has a category icon — for example excursions, dining, entertainment, or fitness. For the full list, see Itinerary item types.
The official itinerary is managed by the OUTbound team and updates automatically. To add your own activities alongside it, see Plan your own flights, hotels, and activities.
Explore your ship
Browse deck plans and onboard photos, and follow your ship's live position at sea.
Available for ocean and river cruises. Land trips show Your Venue instead.
Steps
- Open your trip and tap the Your Ship section. The ship detail screen opens, titled with your ship's name.
- Tap Deck Plan to view the ship's decks.Deck plans open full-screen so you can zoom in to find lounges, dining, and your deck.

Plan your own flights, hotels, and activities
Add your personal travel plans — the flights you booked, the hotel you picked, the things you want to do — right alongside the official OUTbound itinerary.
My Trip Plan is your own space, separate from the official schedule. It's perfect for the days before and after the voyage — your inbound flight, a pre-cruise hotel night, a dinner reservation in port.
Steps
- Open your trip, then open the menu (top-right) and tap My Trip Plan.
- Review the layout.Your plans are organized into before, during, and after the trip, with buckets for Flights, Hotels/Accommodations, and Activities. The official OUTbound Trip itinerary is shown too, marked as managed by OUTbound staff, so you can't edit it here.
- Add a flight, hotel, or activity to the relevant bucket and fill in the details.
Share and view trip photos
Upload photos from the voyage and relive it together. You choose who sees each photo — everyone on the trip, just your friends, or only you.
Trip photos live on the trip itself, so everyone's memories from the same voyage come together in one gallery — as much as each person chooses to share.
Steps
- Open your trip and scroll to Trip Photos.
- Add a photo and choose its visibility.
- Everyone — visible to everyone on the trip.
- Friends — visible only to people you're connected with.
- Only you — private to you.
- Browse the gallery to see photos others have shared. If you've turned on Filter Sensitive Content in your privacy settings, photos that may be sensitive are blurred until you tap to reveal them.
To review or change how photo and content visibility works, see Your privacy on OUTbound.
Your Crew
Passengers, companions, and friends
OUTbound has three overlapping circles of people: everyone on your sailing (passengers), the close group you travel with (companions), and the friends you keep across trips.
Meeting people is a big part of an OUTbound voyage, so the app gives you a few ways to connect — from the whole ship down to your inner circle.
| Circle | Who they are |
|---|---|
| Passengers | Everyone with a reservation on your trip. Browse them, connect, and find your people onboard. See Meet your fellow passengers. |
| Travel companions | The close group you're actually traveling with — the partners and friends you'd share flights, a cabin, or plans with. A companion group gets its own map and group chat. See Set up a travel companion group. |
| Friends | People you stay connected with across trips. You manage friends and requests from the menu under OUTbounders. |
Wherever you connect with someone, you can also chat with them one-on-one or in a group.
Meet your fellow passengers
Browse everyone on your sailing, connect with new friends, and — if people are sharing — see who's nearby on the map.
Steps
- Open your trip, then open the menu (top-right) and tap Passengers. You'll see the people who have a reservation on this trip. (If it says "No Passengers Yet," reservations for the trip haven't been added yet.)
- Tap a passenger to view their profile, and tap Connect to send a request. The button shows Requested until they respond. When someone sends you a request, you'll see Accept and Decline. Once connected, it shows Connected.
- To see passengers on a map, tap the map icon on the Passengers screen. The Passenger Map shows only passengers who have chosen to share their location, and only within the audience they picked. If it says "No Locations Shared," nobody is sharing right now.
Set up a travel companion group
Group the partners and friends you're actually traveling with so you can share plans, see each other on a map, and chat as a group.
Travel companions are your closest circle on a trip — the people you'd share flights, hotels, or a cabin with. Each trip has one companion group, and it comes with its own map and group chat.
Steps
- Open your trip, then open the menu (top-right) and tap Travel Companions.
- Tap Start a Companion Group and invite the people traveling with you.Suggested Companions shows people you've traveled with before to make this quicker. Invitations appear for the other person to accept.
- Once companions accept, use the group's Companion Map and Group Chat. The group chat becomes available once the group has at least three members.
Location on the companion map follows your privacy choices — see Manage your privacy and location settings.
Chat with your crew
Message fellow travelers one-on-one, or keep up with your trip's group chat, before and during the voyage.
Steps
- Open the menu (top-right) and tap Chat to see your conversations. The Chat screen lists your conversations. If it's empty, you'll see "No Conversations — Group chats for your trips will appear here."
- Tap a conversation to open it, or start a new one from a connected passenger's profile.
- To use your trip's group chat, open the trip and choose Group Chat from the menu, or open it from your Travel Companions group.Group Chat appears once your companion group has at least three members.
Privacy & Your Data
Your privacy on OUTbound
Privacy is a choice you make, not a setting you have to fix. Location sharing is off until you turn it on, photos are shared only with the audience you pick, and sign-in is passwordless.
OUTbound is a social travel app, but you decide how visible you are. This section explains what's shared, what isn't, and where you're in control. To change any of it, see Manage your privacy and location settings.
Location sharing is optional and off by default
The app does not share your location until you turn on Track my Location. When you do, you choose exactly who can see my location:
- Off — no one sees your location.
- Travel companions only — just your companion group.
- Friends — people you're connected with.
- Everyone — everyone on the trip.
You can change this or switch it off again at any time, and it takes effect immediately.
You choose who sees each photo
Every photo you add to a trip has its own visibility — Everyone, Friends, or Only you — so nothing is shared more widely than you intend. You can also turn on Filter Sensitive Content so photos that may be sensitive are blurred until you tap to reveal them. See Share and view trip photos.
Connecting is mutual
Reaching out to another passenger sends a request they can accept or decline; you're only connected when they agree. You can decline or block requests you don't want.
Passwordless sign-in
There's no password to create, reuse, or leak. You sign in with a one-time email code or with Sign in with Apple, which lets you hide your email address if you prefer. See Sign in to OUTbound.
Your reservation data stays yours
Linking your OUTbound Account lets OUTbound read your reservation and the traveler details you already gave OUTbound (such as contact info and travel documents) so you don't retype them. OUTbound never changes anything in your OUTbound Account. If you delete your app account, your data is removed and your OUTbound Account is unlinked — but your actual reservation with OUTbound is untouched. See How linking your reservation works.
Deleting your account
You can delete your OUTbound account at any time from Profile Settings → Account Deletion. This permanently removes your personal information, chat messages, friendships, and photos, and unlinks your OUTbound Account. It cannot be undone.
For a quick side-by-side of every visibility option, see Privacy and visibility settings.
Manage your privacy and location settings
Turn location sharing on or off, choose who can see you, and control whether sensitive photos are blurred.
You must be signed in. These settings live in Profile Settings.
Steps
- Open the menu (top-right) → My Profile → Profile Settings.
- Under Location Settings, turn Track my Location on or off. It's off by default. The footer explains it's "only visible to you and other travelers that you share with," and that trip organizers can see your location during the trip for safety.
- Set Who can see my location.
- Off — no one.
- Travel companions only — just your companion group.
- Friends — people you're connected with.
- Everyone — everyone on the trip.
- Under Privacy, turn Filter Sensitive Content on if you want potentially sensitive photos blurred until you tap to reveal them.
Look It Up Anytime
Trip types and terms
OUTbound trips come in three kinds, and the words for start and end depend on the kind of trip.
| Type | What it is | Start / end terms |
|---|---|---|
| Ocean Cruise | A voyage on an ocean ship | Embarkation / Disembarkation |
| River Cruise | A voyage on a river ship | Embarkation / Disembarkation |
| Land Trip | A land-based trip or stay | Departure / Return |
Cruises show a Your Ship section with deck plans, onboard photos, and live position. Land trips show Your Venue instead. See Explore your ship.
Itinerary item types
Every item on your day-by-day itinerary has a category, shown with its own icon. These are the categories you'll see.
| Category | Typically used for |
|---|---|
| Navigation | Sailing, arrivals and departures, and time in transit between stops |
| Excursion | Shore excursions, tours, and off-ship activities in port |
| Dining | Meals, dinners, and dining events |
| Entertainment | Shows, performances, and nightlife |
| Social | Meetups, mixers, and gatherings |
| Fitness | Workouts, classes, and active sessions |
| Games | Trivia, tournaments, and game activities |
| Theme | Theme nights and costumed events |
| Other | Anything that doesn't fit the categories above |
| None | An item with no specific category |
All-day vs. timed items. An item is either all day (shown on a single day with no time) or timed (with a start and end time and, often, a start and end location). Items that have already passed show a green checkmark. See Follow your itinerary.
Privacy and visibility settings
A quick reference to every privacy choice in the app, what it controls, and its default.
| Setting | Where | Options | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Track my Location | Profile Settings → Location Settings | On / Off | Off |
| Who can see my location | Profile Settings → Location Settings | Off / Travel companions only / Friends / Everyone | Off |
| Photo visibility | Set per photo when you add it | Everyone / Friends / Only you | Chosen each time |
| Filter Sensitive Content | Profile Settings → Privacy | On / Off | Off |
| Connections | Passenger / friend profiles | Connect · Accept · Decline · Block | Not connected |
Good to know
- Trip organizers can see your location during the trip for safety, even when your audience is narrower.
- The Passenger Map and Companion Map only show people who have location sharing on, and only within the audience each person chose.
- Every setting takes effect immediately and can be changed at any time.
For the full explanation, see Your privacy on OUTbound.
OUTbound Account linking troubleshooting
What the messages during linking mean, and what to do if your trip doesn't appear.
Messages you might see
| Message | What it means and what to do |
|---|---|
| Invalid username or password. | Those credentials weren't accepted. Confirm them by logging in to your booking in a browser, then try again with the exact same username and password. |
| OUTbound Account Login Failed. Try again later. | Your OUTbound Account couldn't be reached or didn't respond. Check your internet connection and try again in a few minutes. |
| An error occurred while signing in to your OUTbound Account. | Something unexpected happened during sign-in. Try again; if it keeps happening, contact OUTbound support. |
| You must be signed in to link an account. | You're not signed in to OUTbound yet. Sign in first (see Sign in to OUTbound), then link. |
Linking worked, but my trip isn't showing
- On the home screen, pull down to refresh and wait for Updating Reservations… to finish.
- Close the app completely and reopen it.
- Confirm the reservation is actually attached to the OUTbound Account you linked — log in to your booking and check that it is there.
- If you have more than one OUTbound Account login, link the other one too — your reservation may live under a different account.
- Still nothing? Contact OUTbound support with the email you used to sign in and your reservation details.
My password changed
If you changed your OUTbound Account password, open Linked Accounts, tap your username, and choose Update Account with the new password. See Manage or update a linked account.
